Myelodyspastic syndrome with complex cytogenetics.

چکیده
A 74-year-old man with colorectal carcinoma treated with surgery and adjuvant chemotherapy with oxaliplatin and fluorouracil 6 years previously was admitted with fever and suspicion of sepsis. Laboratory tests showed hemoglobin 137 g/L, mean corpuscular volume 94.7 fL, platelets 177 109/L, leukocytes 2.0 109/L, and neutrophils 0.8 109/L. Within 4 days his condition deteriorated rapidly with progressive pancytopenia and severe neutropenia. A peripheral blood smear showed hyposegmented neutrophils (pseudo–Peger-Huët cells) and abnormal granulation (see figure panel A). A bone marrow aspirate revealed markedly dysplastic changes predominantly affecting granulocytic precursors with multinucleated forms and dysplastic granulation (panel B, panel C inset). Cytogenetic analysis showed a complex karyotype with multiple numeric and structural anomalies (panel D; G-banded karyogram of 1 metaphase cell of the bone marrow showing hypotetraploidy with 88 chromosomes and multiple anomalies including several derivative and dicentric chromosomes, duplications, robertsonian translocations, and 5 markers). The patient’s condition did not improve and he died 19 days after admission.

Comparison of classical cytogenetics versus interphase FISH in diagnosis of mosaic form of Turner syndrome
Abstract Background: Mosaic form of turner syndrome that represented by two or more cell lines in an affected individual, often has limitation for detection with classical cytogenetic methods. The present study was carried out to compare the efficiency of interphase Fluorescence In Situ Hybridisation (FISH) and cytogenetic techniques in detection of mosaic form of turner syndrome. Method...
متن کاملSimultaneous Occurrence of Turner Syndrome and Robertsonian Translocation in a Girl with Short Stature: A Case Report
Short stature is an important clinical feature of Turner syndrome (TS). In this report, a girl with short stature suspected to have Turner syndrome underwent cytogenetic analysis, which confirmd Turner syndrome by observing sex chromosomal monosomy using the karyotype test. In addition to Turner syndrome, Robertsonian (ROB) translocation t(13;14) was detected. As recommended by a genetic counse...
متن کاملCytogenetic Analysis of Referral Cases with Growth Failure and Clinical Suspicion of having Chromosomal Abnormality
Background and Objective: Failure to thrive (FTT) is a sign that describes a particular problem rather than a diagnosis and explain growth failure or more advanced failure to gain weight appropriately. The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence and type of chromosomal abnormalities in patients presented with FTT. Materials and Method: One hundred FTT cases with clinical impressio...
متن کاملTherapy-related myelodysplastic syndrome: a case study.
We present a case of therapy-related myelodyspastic syndrome in which the t(3;8)(q26;q24) translocation appeared, even though no chromosomal abnormalities were found at the initial diagnosis of acute myeloid leukemia. To the best of our knowledge, there have only been around 20 reported cases of myeloid malignancies involving t(3;8)(q26;q24). We discuss the characteristics of t(3;8)(q26;q24) al...
